Every so often, it's necessary to return to our roots and reconnect with what drives us to ride a bike.

In issue 40 of the magazine, we revive the travel gene that also inspired us in VOLATA #13, a travel special, and VOLATA #23, a bikepacking special, to continue exploring. This time, we focus on trails, how they are created, maintained, and traveled. To do so, we spoke with the people who build them, like the Aran Bike Parks trail builders; with those who restore them, like the Vías Verdes project, which is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary; and with those who ride them: like Juan Antonio Flecha, who tells us about his adventure along the hidden trails of Further Scotland, or neuroscientist Carla Alfonso, with whom we discover the high mountains of the Val d'Aran on a gravel bike.

We also witnessed the construction and dismantling of the Benidorm cyclocross track with photographer Iván Arribas, and traveled to Bend, Oregon, to test Shimano's new GRX groupset on volcanic soil and sip sake. We also visited Alison Jackson, the 2023 Paris-Roubaix winner, on her family farm in Canada and interviewed Nairo Quintana in a year that hasn't been easy for him.

We round out the magazine with other content: an interview with Greg Van Avermaet in the year of his retirement, a report on the 10th anniversary of the Human Powered Health Team, the partnership between 226ERS and the Movistar Team, and the aerodynamics investigation between BMC and the Red Bull Formula 1 team. Of course, we also included columns by Laura Meseguer, Ander Izagirre, and Luis Ángel Maté. And much more!
