Volata Magazine No. 47, Cycling · Culture · Journalism. Wabi Reference: 9772385365

We've seen it in recent Tour de France races: the rivalry between Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogačar is one of the great driving forces of road cycling today. But it's nothing new. In other eras, sporting duels also marked history: Indurain and Chiappucci, Hinault and LeMond, Coppi and Bartali, Van der Breggen and Van Vleuten, Longo and Canins...

In VOLATA #47, we explore in depth the concept of rivalry—and also friendship—in cycling. We interview Johan Bruyneel, who tells us about the coexistence between Alberto Contador and Lance Armstrong in the 2009 Tour de France, and we have a close conversation between Alex Aramburu and Ion Izagirre to discuss Basque cycling culture and the importance of the environment. In addition, Marcos Pereda takes us back in time to the turbulent 1980s and we review the history of women's cycling through some of its most iconic rivalries. And, for an emblematic rivalry, that of Fausto Coppi and Gino Bartali: enemies on the road, friends off it.

In this issue, we also travel to Navarra to visit Xabier Zandio, ride with him on his favorite roads, and talk about his role as sports director at INEOS Grenadiers. We cover the 757 km between Madrid and Lisbon in the latest edition of El Kilómetro Cero and spend a week in Almería to see it through fresh eyes, guided by journalist Fran Reyes and photographed by Joan Alvado.

In the Crafts section, we visit Cima Coppi's Asturian workshop and test two high-end bikes: MMR's new Simun, designed for competitive gravel, and the Van Rysel RCR-F PRO, tested exclusively by Juan Antonio Flecha.

Of course, we couldn't miss the columns by Ander Izagirre, Laura Meseguer, and Luis Ángel Maté, as well as many other stories that round out the issue.

Cover by Marc Ríos. We hope you like it!
