It's often said that the Tour de France is more than a race, it's life itself transformed into a cycling race. Because, beyond the sporting results, it creates heroes and villains, provokes obsessions, inspires songs, unveils landscapes, mobilizes masses, and creates dreams. It's a road movie with the best possible ending—just ask Tadej Pogacar. In VOLATA No. 28, our issue dedicated to collecting all those echoes of the Tour de France, we interviewed him.
In this yellow-tinged dossier, we also offer a photo report on empty alpine ski resorts closed in summer, an interview with Breton musician Yann Tiersen (composer of the soundtrack for Amélie), a report on Kraftwerk and the Tour de France Soundtracks album, we analyze the decline of the mountain jersey, and review the always complicated mobility in Paris.
We also revisit the experience of the first editions of the women's Tour de France in the 1980s, to reflect on what the return of the women's competition, already announced for 2022, should look like.
We round out the content with a rainy gravel route through the Guadarrama mountain range and articles on Pippa York (formerly known as Robert Millar), Igor Astarloa's life after cycling, Damiano Caruso's transformation, as well as the usual sections and columns by Laura Meseguer, Luis Ángel Maté, and Ander Izagirre. And much more.
