The latest 2x12-speed version of the 105 crankset also uses Shimano's proven hollow construction methods to provide not only a visually appealing drivetrain component, but one that's also lightweight and stiff.

While the Hollowtech II technology on the aluminum cranks ensures huge weight savings without compromising stability, the Hollowglide construction takes care of this task on the large chainring, also made of aluminum. Additionally, the plastic ribs on the back of the cymbals represent the unique structural design of the 105 series.

In short, with the FC-R7100-12, road cyclists not only get an extremely light crank, but also a powerful one, whose durable arms ensure efficient power transmission. The crankset is completed by the cleverly designed chainrings, which are perfectly matched to the FD-R7150 front derailleur and guarantee not only fast but also precise shifting.

Hollowtech II

The guiding principle behind Shimano's Hollowtech II technology is the perfect balance of stiffness, stability, weight, and rotational efficiency. The goal was to make a crank that minimized the power required for actuation and allowed more efficient power transmission. An exclusive forging process makes it possible to manufacture extremely light connecting rods that, however, guarantee maximum rigidity. The fixed connection of the right arm to the bottom bracket and its external bearing also serve to achieve an optimal balance between rigidity and low weight.
