Shimano Tiagra BB-RS501 bottom bracket for frames with BSA or Italian thread
The Shimano BB-RS501 bottom bracket mounts a 24mm spindle crank to road bike frames with threaded bottom brackets. Depending on the version, it is a BSA or ITA bottom bracket shell with a width of 68mm or 70mm. Shimano recommends BB-RS501 for the Tiagra, Sora, Claris, Alfine, GRX RX600 series cranks and for a number of non-group models. It presents an optimized joint design that prolongs its durability. The bearings are made of steel and the cups are made of anodized aluminium. Hollowtech II
Shimano Hollowtech II is a crank bottom bracket system designed to achieve an ideal ratio of stiffness, weight and rotational efficiency. It is based on an integration of the lower bearing and the right crank arm and works with a 24mm diameter spindle or bottom bracket, which has proven to be optimal in terms of stability. In many cases, the bearing cups are on the outside for better load distribution. In addition, high-quality precision gaskets are added to ensure a long service life.
