Reborn Faster: This is the slogan under which DT-Swiss is launching the second generation of its ARC Aero wheel series. With the new dominance of disc brakes in the market and the trend towards wider tubeless tyres, the starting point for road bike wheel development has changed significantly. When developing the wheels, DT-Swiss stuck to its AERO+ concept, which aims to balance sometimes conflicting requirements such as top speed and the best possible handling. Close cooperation with the aerodynamics experts from Swiss Side has also been maintained, who, in addition to 20 years of experience in Formula 1, have also been able to convince with first-class cycling innovations in the recent past.

With the increased freedom provided by the disc brake system, the rim shape of the ARC wheels could be made wider. While the previous profile resembled the generalized U-shape, the new profile is a combination of the classic V and U shapes. At 20 millimeters, the inner width has been increased significantly to accommodate 25 and 28-millimeter tires. aerodynamic shape and be able to take advantage of the rolling resistance and comfort advantages of wider tires. In a direct comparison in the wind tunnel, the impellers were able to achieve maximum values at all relevant entry angles. However, thanks to the AERO+ concept, the new tires are not only fast, but their susceptibility to crosswinds has also been improved. This allows the rider to stay in an aerodynamic seating position for longer and make fewer direction corrections in high winds.

Even during the development of the first generation of ARC wheels, DT Swiss recognized great potential in optimizing rotating air resistance. This knowledge was taken into account with the development of the new Aerolite II and Aero Comp II spokes. Compared to the previous version, the Aerolite II is 35% wider and 23% thinner. Due to the flat forging process of the spokes, the steel is compressed more, which leads to higher tensile strength. In addition, the aerodynamically optimized Straightpull T-Head suspension of the spokes and internal nipples guarantee less resistance to rotation and translation.

DICUT 180 hubs
The latest generation of 180 DICUT hubs with DT Swiss EXP technology spins in the center of the wheels. Fitted with high-quality SINC ceramic bearings, they help save a few watts. In addition to a reduction in weight compared to the previous version, the hubs have also become stiffer and feature aerodynamically optimized straight hub bodies and flanges. By using complex seals and load-matched bearing sizes, hubs do not need to adjust bearing play.
